On Friday, December 3, 2021, the first train on the Sky Railway was launched.

More than a year and a half ago, George Martin and his associates acquired the Santa Fe Southern Railroad in New Mexico. Sky Railway was previously owned by private individuals. However, the last owner ceased operations in 1992, and there has been no passenger service on this nearly 29-kilometer line between Lamy and Santa Fe since then.

Santa Fe is a small city in New Mexico that has become an interesting and unique place due to many different factors.

Locals from all over America began to travel here by rail to experience the unique combination of cultures, mountains and fresh air.

We could say that without the rail link, Santa Fe would be a much less exciting place.

George Martin was well aware of the value and importance of the railroad to this place. The bestselling author moved to Santa Fe in 1979 and, as he said, “fell in love with this place.” This is one of the reasons he bought a closed line to revitalize it and increase tourism in the region.

The Sky Railway organized its maiden voyage on Friday, December 3rd. The idea behind the Sky Railway is not only about trips to simply admire the views.

As the operator states: “Together with a creative team led by George Martin, Sky Railway is developing a series of fun adventure railroad tours that will make it one of the most original, creative and exciting short-distance railways in the country.”

According to Sky Railway, tickets for the next flights have already been sold out.

However, many other adventure trips are planned, promising not only a train ride through the beautiful New Mexico desert, but also entertainment during the trip: music, cocktails, storytelling and detective interactive games!
