Poland is testing a device to prevent the theft of contact network elements
28.01.2022
PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe has started testing an “anti-theft” device for railway overhead systems.
This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Railinsider.
The tests are expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.
PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe believes that the anti-theft system can help reduce financial losses, as well as limit train disruptions.
At the training grounds in Žmigrud the sensor sets were installed on traction poles. They must identify outsiders and provide information to railroad workers. The system analyzes various signals, in particular voltage drop, wire vibrations and traction network voltage.
In addition, together with motion sensors, it helps to identify vehicles and people near the line at any time of the day. The system is powered by solar panels.
According to the report, such a solution will prevent trains from leaving the damaged contact network and prevent electric shock.
Once the system testing is complete, they will analyze the results and decide on the implementation of the device.
