Finnish Railways (VR) has signed a contract for the purchase of nine double deck sleeping cars and eight compartment cars. On the occasion of the signing of the contract, the Finns showed visualizations of the new rolling stock. Railway Supply magazine writes about this with reference to Nakolei.
Last December, VR completed a tender for the supply of nine double-deck sleeping cars and eight compartment cars. There was no appeal, so Finnish Railways decided to sign a contract with the Finnish company Škoda.

The base value of the contract is 50 million euros. The contract also provides for the possibility of using two options, ie. order 30 more double-deck sleeping cars and 30 compartment cars. According to the Finns, the new rolling stock will be put into operation as early as 2025.
Compared to 2018, the popularity of overnight rail travel has grown by 17 percent. With the new wagons, Finnish Railways wants to meet customer expectations and further improve the travel experience.
