Latvian Railways has announced further staff reductions in 2021

The state-owned company Latvijas dzelzcels (Latvian Railways) plans to cut 700 employees in 2021. This was reported to BNS by the representative of the State Employment Agency Inta Choderi. On Thursday, the employment agency received a corresponding message from LDz.
According to the LDz consolidated report for 2020, the average number of staff last year was 8,539 people – 1,616 people less than a year earlier.
Ieva Karklin, Head of Corporate Communications of LDz, said that in the last year and a half, responding to the situation in the field of freight transportation and forming the basis for efficient and competitive activities, the company is reviewing all functions and processes in the company. as well as other aspects that affect its operation, reports Railway Supply magazine.
During the assessment and optimization of administrative and support functions of the enterprise, as well as its technological processes, it was decided to reduce the number of employees by about 700 people by the end of the year.

Karklin said that the reduction in the number of employees is planned in two stages. In the first stage – in September-October – after assessing the work achievements of employees and consultations with the union, it is planned to terminate employment with about 200 employees, mostly administrative and support staff.
In the second stage it is planned to reduce about 500 production workers, LDz will submit data to the State Employment Agency in September, after consultations with the State Railway Technical Inspectorate and the trade union.
It should be noted that the revenues of the Latvian railway company in 2020 amounted to 156.536 million euros, which is 14.6% less than in 2019.
