General Director of Kosovo Railways Infrastructure Infrakos Zimer Zekai and President of Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie (GCF) Edoardo Rossi signed a contract for the modernization and construction of the second track of the Fouche Kosova-Mitrovica railway line.

This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Infrakos. 48 million euros is the value of the contract, which must be completed within a few months.

The project envisages the reconstruction of 148 km of a railway line and 5 stations crossing the entire country from north to south.

The work will be carried out in compliance with the European Technical Standards to improve the safety of railway traffic, conditions for passengers, train speed and the number of trains per day.

The signing of the contract “marks the continuation of the implementation of the reconstruction of railway line 10, which paves the way for the third phase from Mitrovica to Leshak, and we hope together with the contractor that our goal will be realized as soon as possible in terms of time and quality in accordance with European standards to get closer to Europe as soon as possible, ”said the CEO of Infrakos.

Upon completion, the project will increase the travel speed to 100 km/h and ensure safe conditions for passenger and freight traffic. The project provides for the installation of modern signaling and telecommunications, as well as electrification work.

The project will increase the speed of passenger and freight traffic from 20 km/h to 100 km/h, as well as the load on the cargo axle to 22.5 tons. It is expected 1.2 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo.
