International talks on the Trans-Afghan Corridor took place in Tashkent

In December of this year, trilateral (Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan) and multilateral (Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan) talks were held in Tashkent with the participation of senior officials of ministries and agencies for the design and construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif – Kabul — Peshawar railway.

This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to JSC “Uzbekistan Temir Yullari”.
The parties stressed the importance of this project in strengthening good neighborly relations, developing interregional cooperation in the field of international transport communications and trade relations, as well as deepening cooperation in various sectors of the economy.
As a result of the meetings, the parties agreed to study the railway lines on site, hold regular working group meetings and involve international financial institutions in the project after developing a preliminary feasibility study.
Earlier it was reported that the construction of the railway between Pakistan and Uzbekistan through Afghanistan is estimated at 4.8 billion US dollars.
