In Switzerland, trials of obstacle detection system on narrow-gauge railway have begun
07.05.2024
Carrier Appenzeller Bahnen has selected the NOVA Smartsense system for testing on a vintage 1958 wagon, which travels the 2-kilometer route between Rinken and Walzenhausen daily, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
It’s planned that nearly two years of trials will gather data on obstacles along the route.
LTG Group and Ukrzaliznytsia will develop the intermodal route Klaipeda-Kyiv
Stadler aims to integrate NOVA Smartsense into the GoA4 automatic train operation system designed for the highest-level wagons.
Appenzeller Bahnen ordered such a wagon from Stadler in 2022, with its launch expected in 2027.
This marks an important step in the development of automated railway management systems.
The Rinken-Walzenhausen line has open infrastructure with level crossings, making the trials particularly significant.
Apart from Switzerland, similar technologies are being tested in other countries, including France, where the Île-de-France region is developing its own technical vision system for the railway network.
