Since the beginning of 2023, over 400 railway compositions have been idling on tracks, as stated by Kazakh Senate deputy Zakirzhan Kuziev, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
He also revealed that Kazakhstan Railways own 2,228 wagons, of which 776 (a third of the total) are over 28 years old.

Kuziev highlights that the average wear and tear of Kazakhstan Railways’ locomotives surpasses 67%, freight wagons reach 57%, and passenger wagons reach 53%.
He emphasizes that these issues significantly diminish the attractiveness of transit through Kazakhstan, prompting neighboring countries to seek alternative routes.
