Hyundai Rotem wins contract to supply railway signaling systems to Egypt

Egyptian National Railways has awarded Hyundai Rotem a US $ 110.28 million contract. This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply referring to Railway Pro.

The Korean company will supply a state-of-the-art railway signaling system, including an automatic electronic train interlocking system, to upgrade the railway signaling systems on the 118-kilometer section of the railway line.

Another train disaster in Egypt

The tender for the modernization of railway signaling and communication systems on the Nag Hammadi-Luxor line was closed in June 2020 and was valued at $ 115 million. In Egypt, Hyundai Rotem is also taking part in the supply of subway railcars for lines 1 and 3 of Cairo, with financial support from the Export-Import Bank of Korea.

On April 27, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Hyundai CEO Lee Yong-bae, where they discussed the possibility of joint cooperation to localize train production, including signaling and communication systems, as well as command and control equipment.
