The large-scale invasion of the Russian army into Ukraine on February 24 had a great impact on most of the main indicators of the work of Ukraine’s railway transport.

Railway indicators of Ukraine

It is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Rail.insider.

The first thing that was affected by military aggression was loading into wagons. Negative dynamics was observed in relation to the main types of rolling stock.

Thus, the volume of loading into gondola cars fell by about 2.5 times compared to March 2021, into grain carriers by almost 3.5 times.

However, the situation was uneven over the month – towards the end of the reporting period, there was an increase in volumes.

On the other hand, the turnover of railcars grew rapidly in March. The average turnaround time for a gondola car increased by almost 6 days, and for a grain carrier – by 10 days. The indicator for covered wagons and tanks changed much less significantly.

At the same time, the hostilities had almost no effect on the distribution of the fleet of private cars and rolling stock owned by Ukrzaliznytsia on the market. The share of private enterprises in the loading of wagons continues to dominate.
