At the first site in Żmigród, the locomotive was tested at 160 km/h. Subsequently, on the Central Railway Line, the locomotive was accelerated to 230 km/h.

The tests focused on examining the impact of the locomotive on the overhead contact line. Additionally, the compatibility of Siemens Mobility’s new equipment with the ETCS train control system was assessed.

Testing will continue in Żmigród in August. Based on the results, Siemens plans to obtain certification and approval for operation in European countries where such speeds are permitted.

Siemens also intends to secure operational approval for the locomotive in Poland.

The Director of Marketing and Communications at Siemens Mobility announced plans to carry out homologation for the use of Vectron 230 on Polish railways.

Vectron locomotives, produced by Siemens since 2010, are designed to operate on both alternating and direct current with a maximum design speed of up to 200 km/h.

The new Vectron 230 modification features an updated generator and aerodynamic improvements to the buffer beam design.

The first customer for the enhanced Vectron 230 was the Czech railway operator ČD, which acquired 50 of these locomotives in 2022 for the Prague – Berlin – Hamburg route.
