Czech Railways continue to modernize their fleet

Czech Railways continue to modernize their fleet for domestic and international intercity lines. The new cars, adapted to a speed of 230 km/h, will be delivered by the consortium Siemens Mobility and Škoda Transportation. Delivery is scheduled for 2024-26, and the contract value is about half a billion euros, infroms Railway Supply magazine with reference to  Nakolei Pl.

The new 180 Viaggio Comfort railcars will be used for passenger transport, while two more railcars will be purchased by the Czech railways infrastructure operator for rail testing.

The new coaches will have a number of innovative features such as adjustable seats in the first and second class, sockets for charging electric bicycles, Wi-Fi, special glass covers to improve radio and Internet signals, on-board information and electronic booking system, chargers for telephones, children’s cinema, space for 12 bicycles and a food area.

Viaggio Comfort railcars will be approved for operation in the Czech Republic and neighboring European countries such as Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. Vehicle compatibility will be ensured by adherence to the relevant regional specifications.

The control railcars will be equipped with an ETCS onboard unit and national train protection systems. The order includes the delivery of 20 trains.

In 2018, Czech Railways have already ordered 50 Viaggio Comfort railcars from Siemens Mobility and Škoda Transportation.
