new electric trains

The carrier had to contact Polish manufacturers such as Newag, Pesa Bydgoszcz and FPS H. Cegielski about the matter, reports Railway Supply magazine.

According to the Czech portal Zdopravy.cz, Czech Railways wants to expand its fleet of electric trains.

This time the trains will be adapted to run at 200 km/h. The carrier had to contact the rolling stock manufacturers as part of the preliminary market consultations that would be held prior to the actual announcement of the tender procedure.

Czech Railways would like to purchase a total of up to 100 new electric trains in various combinations depending on the number of units. It was indicated that new electric trains should have: 200, 300, 400 or 500 seats.

The purchase will be connected with the construction of high-speed lines in the Czech Republic. But new electric trains should be transferred to conventional railways, where the maximum speed in some sections should be increased to 200 km/h.

The new electric trains should be between 80 and 160 meters long and allowed to operate in neighboring countries, including Poland.

It is assumed that vehicles must be adapted for operation in networks of 3 kV, 25 kV, 15 kV and 16.7 kV. In addition, they must be equipped with an onboard ETCS system.

According to published documents, Czech Railways had to invite manufacturers such as:

  • Alstom
  • CAF
  • Newag
  • Pesa Bydgoszcz
  • Siemens Mobility
  • Stadler
  • Skoda
  • ZOS Vrutky
  • CRRC
  • FPS H. Cegielski
