In Slovenia, the state-owned company 2TDK, which is implementing a project to build a second railway line on the new route between the Koper seaport and the Divača transport hub, has started drilling two of the seven tunnels: T7 and T8, 1154 and 3808 m long, respectively.

This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply.

The Koper-Divach project envisages the construction of a second track with a length of 27.1 km, which will complement the existing single-track line.

The route is laid on difficult terrain, so 75% of its length falls on the tunnel.

It is also necessary to build four bridges and a gallery 45 m long. The longest of the seven tunnelswith a total length of 20.5 km will be T1 – 6714 m.

The second track in the Koper-Divača corridor will eliminate a bottleneck in the trans-European corridor of the TEN-T network, which connects the Baltic Sea ports (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Świnoujście) in northern Europe with the ports of Koper, Trieste, Venice and Ravenna in the south. .

In May 2021, a CPG consortium consisting of Kolektor CPG (Slovenia), Yapı Merkezi Insaat and Özaltın Insaat (both Turkey) started the project under two contracts worth a total of 628.3 million euros for the construction of Devača – Črni Kal and Črni Kal – Koper.

The project for the construction of the second railway line between Koper and Divach is estimated at 1.2 billion euros, 250 million of which is provided by the European Investment Bank, 153 million euros are allocated from the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Union.

The commissioning of the new line is scheduled for 2025. The speed of freight trains will be limited to 120 km / h. With a capacity of 230 trains / day, the annual volume of traffic can be up to 43 million tons.
