CN infrastructure investment boosts Western Canadian growth
In 2025, CN plans to fund multiple projects that expand track capacity, improve tunnels and bridges, and enhance operational fluidity. These efforts will help reduce congestion and strengthen CN’s supply chain resilience.
Tracy Robinson, CN’s President and CEO, emphasized that strategic investments are essential to delivering consistent and efficient service. She said CN is focused on long-term value for customers and communities.
British Columbia’s Minister of Transportation, Mike Farnworth, welcomed the investment, highlighting its impact on both urban and rural transport links. He noted that this upgrade enhances reliability and efficiency across the province’s logistics network.
Recent CN projects delivered regional infrastructure gains
Last year, CN allocated $554 million in British Columbia toward track maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. The company extended sidings along corridors from Vancouver to Fort St. John with over $22 million in funding.
In Greater Vancouver, CN launched the multi-year Holdom Overpass with an initial $7.6 million investment. The railroad also upgraded the Thornton Tunnel with $2 million and modernized key bridges for an additional $7 million.
CN’s footprint in British Columbia remains robust. The company employs around 2,698 people and operates 2,797 route miles in the province. In 2024, it spent $559 million locally and contributed $2.7 million to community initiatives.
