This initiative marks the return of cross-border trains to Kent for the first time since March 2020, when Eurostar suspended services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Travelers will book tickets using the Uber app, while Gemini retains operational control.

Uber Expands Reach Through Gemini Train Partnership

Uber continues to diversify its transport offering in the UK by integrating rail options. The company aims to simplify international travel through seamless access via its app and a focus on sustainability.

Andrew Brem, Uber’s UK general manager, highlighted the success of adding new transport modes. He said this collaboration builds on Uber’s goal to improve passenger convenience and mobility across borders.

Uber Deal Challenges Eurostar’s Market Lead

Gemini Trains plans to purchase ten new trains for the service. It has applied for access to the Temple Mills depot, a key facility currently used by Eurostar in northeast London.

Other contenders also plan to launch rival services, including Virgin Group and Italy’s FS Italiane Group. These competitors are seeking to reshape the international high-speed rail sector.

Gemini CEO Adrian Quine called the Uber agreement “really exciting” and praised its potential to enhance passenger experiences with smart, tech-driven service integration.

Eurostar has not yet resumed services to Kent despite local demand. Instead, it remains focused on its core routes in the post-pandemic environment.

By partnering with Gemini, Uber strengthens its presence in European travel while supporting new competition in a market historically dominated by one operator.

This collaboration could pave the way for more innovation and convenience in cross-Channel travel, especially for passengers seeking digital-first solutions.
