ČD leases 13 Vectron electric locomotives

By the end of March Czech Railways České dráhy (ČD) must receive the first 6 Vectron locomotives (manufactured by Siemens) from the lease contract concluded with the Slovak company Rolling Stock Lease. The remaining 7 electric locomotives will be delivered by October 2022. These locomotives will go on the international route from the Czech Republic to Poland: Prague – Wroclaw – Gdynia, informs railway magazine Railway Supply with a link to the website nakolei.pl

At the moment, the contract covers 13 electric locomotives, but it can be expanded to 50 units.

The rolling stock is provided by the Slovak company Rolling Stock Lease, which already has Vectron supplies for ZSSK in its portfolio. The cost of the contract is unknown. However, it is noted that the rent includes maintenance and service.

Locomotive lease is associated with the need to replace the old rolling stock that does not support the new ETCS traffic control system, as well as the transition from DC to AC in the overhead catenary in the Czech Republic.
