According to the China Railway Urumqi Group, the total number of China-Europe freight train routes passing through the Alashankou border station at the Alatau Pass in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China has reached 100. This is reported by Railway Supply magazine, citing zdmira.

In 2022, the Alashankou and Khorgos stations located on the border with Kazakhstan passed 13.3 thousand freight trains on the China-Europe direction, which is 8.7% more than in 2021. The number of trains departing from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region , in 2022 increased by 21.5% compared to 2021, amounting to 1440 units.

Tests of diesel trains running on biofuel were successful

More than 30% of all freight trains from China pass through the Alashankou border crossing point to 19 destinations in Europe, including Germany, Poland and Russia. On average, Alashankou handles 17 freight trains per day compared to 3.5 trains in 2012.
