EIB is considering financing PKP Intercity in the amount of 995 million euros

The European Investment Bank offers PKP Intercity funding of PLN 4,500 million (€ 995 million) for the acquisition and modernization of rolling stock.

PLN 9,300 million (EUR 2,056 million) is the total cost of the project, which includes the purchase of new electric locomotives and passenger cars, as well as the modernization of electric locomotives and carriages. This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Railway Pro.
The Polish rail operator recently announced a tender for the purchase of 63 multi-system locomotives, including an option for 32 additional vehicles that will be equipped with ETCS Level 2.

This year PKP Intercity and CZ Loko signed a contract worth 8.9 million euros for the purchase of 10 new shunting locomotives.
In addition, under the locomotive renewal project, the company signed contracts with Newag for a total of € 123.6 million for 30 Griffin locomotives. The last of the 20 originally ordered locomotives was delivered last year. The EU has allocated funds under the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Program for this project.
In 2020 PKP Intercity received 83 modernized wagons from Pesa Bydgoszcz under a € 70.76 million contract and 90 modernized ones from H. Cegielski Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych, which completed the contract for PLN 410 million (€ 97 million).
PKP Intercity will acquire up to 63 locomotives
PKP Intercity is implementing its largest rolling stock acquisition program until 2030 in the amount of PLN 19 billion (€ 4.2 billion). The project provides for the modernization of trains, the purchase of new electric trains, locomotives, passenger cars and double-deck cars.
The funding, which is being considered by the EIB, will support the implementation of a project that will improve the quality of rail services provided in Poland, as well as promote the development of rail travel, reducing the use of private vehicles and the associated negative impact on the local environment, road safety. traffic and greenhouse gas emissions and thus will contribute to sustainable transport development in line with EU goals.
