Approximately 1.4 million people use the S-Bahn Berlin trains daily, which operate on 16 lines in the capital and the state of Brandenburg.
These 106 new carriages were manufactured at Stadler’s Berlin facility in collaboration with Siemens Mobility and belong to the new 483/484 series.
Berlin currently operates four different series on its railway lines.
The states of Berlin and Brandenburg financed the acquisition of these new trains.
The addition of this new fleet of S-Bahn trains enhances capacity in certain parts of the Berlin S-Bahn network, expanding services.
During the replacement of old trains, the number of carriages per train was increased.
Longer trains now run on the circular lines S41/S42, as well as on line S8, which has been extended to Wilkau during peak hours.

Specifically, this means that there are now eight trains on the circular route instead of six, resulting in an almost one-third increase in capacity.
The new S-Bahn fleet now offers approximately 18,000 seats. These new trains started running sequentially from the beginning of 2021 and have since been serving on the S41, S42, S46, S47, and S8 lines.
