Czech rolling stock manufacturer CZ Loko has started building a hydrogen locomotive. Currently, a feasibility study is underway, after which a decision will be made to build a prototype vehicle.

Manufacturer CZ Loko has announced the start of work on a hydrogen locomotive, reports Railway Supply magazine, citing Nakolei Pl.

HydrogenShunter 1000, which must be equipped with hydrogen cells that will generate electrical voltage following a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen.

The Czechs assume that their locomotive will have a capacity of up to 800 kW. Jan Kutalek, director of sales for CZ Loko, said the project is currently in the feasibility study stage, which will show the cost-effectiveness of a possible prototype.
