CRRC Unveils the World’s First Driverless Train Reaching 200 km/h
14.10.2025
CRRC unveiled the globe’s first driverless train that can run at a speed of 200 km/h as the mega project’s big day arrives in 2026.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

CRRC Advances Innovation and Reliability Standards
The eight-car GSYE61 (Type D) tram made its debut as the company exhibited the MetroTrans show at Qingdao. Although with a driver’s console, the demonstration achieves GoA4 automation, the highest to permit fully automatic working without human control.

The new train accommodates 844 passengers, including 428 seated, and offers business-class zones and a separate luggage car. Its carbon-fiber composite body enhances strength and reduces weight, improving energy performance and durability.

Powered with four motor cars equipped with synchronous permanent-magnet traction motor with a combined power of 5,280 kw, the train achieves seamless acceleration as well as steady operation during high speeds.
CRRC Focuses on Digitalization and Energy Efficiency
The self-operating train combines a smart diagnostic system with 2,900 sensors, always checking onboard systems in real time. A self-training program foresees possible faults and facilitates preventive maintenance, enhancing safety and reliability.
As CRRC engineers explained, the new one lowers the failure rates to 95% compared to earlier versions as well as decrease the power consumption to 16% less compared to earlier versions. Because the fully redundant control system, the locomotive can still function with malfunctioned components separately.

Experts describe this achievement as a new chapter in the development of the world’s railway technologies. CRRC showcases how automation, digital innovation can achieve speed, safety, sustainability all in one package that aligns perfectly with the strategy to reduce carbon emission of China.
