CN homelessness prevention grants

According to CN’s announcement, the first $1 million in grants has been assigned to four non-profit organizations in the Montreal area: Chaînon, Dans la rue, Mission Old Brewery, and Projets Autochtones du Québec.

The funding is focused on early intervention, sustainable responses to homelessness, and efforts to reduce stigma around the issue.

Also, CN had previously committed $1 million over two years to the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness. That support was directed toward data-driven research.

Next funding cycle

The next funding cycle is set to begin on July 1, 2026. It is for organizations working in homelessness prevention, as stated on CN’s Railroaders for Change page.

The $100 million commitment reflects a growing corporate trend toward structured, long-term philanthropic programmes addressing social issues.

In addition, its focus on data-driven solutions aligns with broader efforts to measure and optimize social impact investments.

At the same time, the initiative underscores CN’s strategy to deepen its community ties. It could potentially enhance its operational and regulatory standing in key markets.
