Known as The Scott & Brassey, the venue is now serving customers from platform four. It sits inside what was once a first class waiting room. Meanwhile, that part of the station had been used as a café for years before reopening as a pub at the end of February.

Lancaster Brewery operates The Scott & Brassey. At the same time, the £400,000 renovation was delivered by Network Rail with backing from Avanti West Coast and the Railway Heritage Trust. The work forms part of the broader Carlisle Station upgrade.

The pub takes its name from Scottish novelist Sir Walter Scott and railway pioneer Thomas Brassey. Also, the interior includes vaulted beam ceilings, booth seating and a large fireplace.

Heritage details and drinks at the railway pub

The railway pub also contains numerous references to the Grade II*-listed station, including old photographs, framed pictures and railway memorabilia. In addition, those details tie the venue closely to the heritage of Carlisle Station.

Drinks available at The Scott & Brassey include seven cask ales, one cask cider and eight keg lines, as also noted by Avanti West Coast. The dog-friendly pub is open from 11am to 10pm from Sunday to Thursday, and from 11am to 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

The Carlisle Station pub has already drawn positive comments on social media. Still, the wording of those reactions remains exactly as reported. One Facebook user said he was “impressed”, while another wrote that “a lot of work and thought and vision have gone into it”.
