The Port of Huelva says the works are funded through the EU’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan under NextGenerationEU. Also, the project adds a third railway track. It will support Rolling Highway services. In addition, it will improve sustainable freight transport.
Meanwhile, Asch Infraestructuras y Servicios is building the new V3 track. It will be 1,211 meters long. Separately, the terminal platform will expand by 15,112 m². This will bring the total space to nearly 49,000 m².
Also, the upgrade includes:

- signaling systems
- drainage systems
- lighting systems
Rail links and weekly freight services
The terminal already handles 750-meter trains. At the same time, it connects with the port’s rail network and key road links. In addition, it supports weekly services to Madrid, including Abroñigal and Fuenlabrada. It also supports services to Seville (Majarabique). These services move containerized cargo, as reported by Container News.
Port of Huelva as a logistics hub
Meanwhile, the expansion strengthens the port’s role as a logistics hub in southern Europe. Still, it improves intermodal connections. It also creates new opportunities for the port community and regional businesses.
