Caltrain electrified service to Tamien is scheduled to resume on Jan. 31, restoring electric trains to San Jose’s Tamien station after service was suspended last June because of a bridge project, as reported by Trains.com. The return also comes with a new weekday and weekend schedule.

Caltrain describes most of the timetable updates as minor. The main change is operational: electrified operations to Tamien will replace substitute VTA bus service that ran during the suspension. Riders can find the updated timetables through Caltrain PDF Schedules.

Caltrain electrified service to Tamien and the bridge work

Electrified service to Tamien was paused on June 16 to accommodate the Guadalupe Bridge Replacement Project. That work involved replacing a wooden trestle dating to 1935, in line with Caltrain’s project page on the Guadalupe River Bridge Replacement.

Caltrain said restoring the catenary system for the Tamien segment took nearly 40,000 hours of work. With that restoration completed, electrified Caltrain operations to San Jose’s Tamien station will return under the new weekday and weekend timetable.
