Opening of the BNSF intermodal facility Oklahoma City
The intermodal facility entered service on 31 December 2025 and covers a 42-acre intermodal site, as reported by Trains Magazine. It is intended to give Hobby Lobby more streamlined, cost-efficient logistics options tied to its supply chain needs, a move previously covered by Railway Supply.
Hobby Lobby, an arts and crafts specialist, had been seeking more economical movement of its loaded containers from the ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach to its network of Hobby Lobby distribution centres in Oklahoma City.
BNSF Railway and Hobby Lobby supply chain partnership
BNSF Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Tom Williams said: “As the leading rail intermodal provider in North America, BNSF has a relentless passion for growth. In order to be successful, we must take advantage of growth opportunities when we see them for our customers. Expanding into Oklahoma City to offer Hobby Lobby a new, unique solution to its supply chain needs is a chance for us deliver on that promise, and we are excited to watch the success this partnership will bring.”
Truck moves and emissions impact
At full utilisation, the Oklahoma City intermodal facility is expected to eliminate up to 40,000 truck moves from the highway per year. BNSF also stated that this shift would cut overall emissions between Dallas Fort-Worth and Oklahoma City.
