Azerbaijan Invests in Railway Modernization

Currently, a well-known Swiss company remains the main supplier of trains, providing modern train sets. Stadler has already fulfilled a contract for the delivery of four diesel and six FLIRT electric trains.

Additionally, the project involves further procurement of rolling stock for the capital’s metro. Authorities aim to renew the fleet of metro cars, which has become outdated over the years.

Azerbaijan Develops Metro: New Cars for Passenger Comfort

Over recent years, Baku has retired 177 outdated metro cars, replacing them with modern models. The metro currently operates 351 Russian-made cars, but new deliveries are planned.

The modernization program includes acquiring 299 new metro cars to improve comfort and safety. This is part of a long-term plan to upgrade Baku’s metro system.

Between 2018 and 2023, 20 new trains were introduced, enhancing service quality. Currently, 13 more modern train sets are being delivered, meeting international standards.

This project is designed to develop infrastructure and improve the convenience of public transportation. Authorities emphasize the integration of modern technologies and enhanced transport performance.

The acquisition of new train sets will reduce the load on older rolling stock and improve transport efficiency. The long-term development strategy considers population growth and future urban transport demands.

Experts highlight that modernization will reduce train intervals and improve passenger service. Implementing new routes will help balance passenger flow and optimize transportation networks.

Thus, the upcoming train deliveries will mark a significant step in improving the country’s transport infrastructure. The upgraded rolling stock will ensure safety, comfort, and efficiency in passenger transport.
