The plan to reduce the number of employees of the Belarusian Railways by at least 8 thousand people was brought to the attention of railway functionaries “from above”. In previous publications, the facts of a significant reduction in income from the main activities of the Belarusian Railways have been confirmed more than once. Financial results in all types of transportation (except for passenger, unprofitable a priori) are a clear confirmation of the upcoming layoffs. This is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to the Community of Railway Workers of Belarus.

A significant reduction in the transit of goods towards the EU, the closure of the Benyakone-Stasylos border railway checkpoint for freight traffic and, in the future, the possible cessation of traffic through the Gudogai-Kyana checkpoint in no way contribute to increasing the transit attractiveness of the Belarusian Railways in the eyes of its eastern partners. And the Polish side is increasingly announcing the possible closure of freight traffic with Belarus.

Russian Railways loading volumes are declining

In the context of a sharp decline in transit and the “looming” prospects of its possible complete loss, the first thing the management of the Belarusian Railways is capable of is to throw people out into the street. After all, as you know, transit is the main source of income for this enterprise, through which all previous (until 2022) years it was possible to “make ends meet”.

The implementation of the plan will begin shortly. Moreover, not only those noted in the so-called “lists from the KGB” will fall under the knife, but also other workers who will not be lucky enough to get caught even in the most miserable and insignificant, accidentally committed violation of discipline or any other misconduct …

Summing up, we can say that the Belarusian Railways is really taking measures to reduce its unprofitability. But the method that is dictated to her from above and which is unconditionally accepted by the current management of the railroad, causes an “ambiguous reaction”.
