Amtrak adds more seasonal trains in Colorado

Amtrak enhances its regional role in tourism with its reintroduction of the Winter Park Express. The train service connects Denver Union Station to both Winter Park Resort and Fraser. It offers travelers a stress-free journey compared to driving using highways.

There are planned 57 round-trip train movements between December 19th, 2025, and March 29th, 2026. Trains run between Thursdays and Sundays so that people can go to ski over the weekend without traffic. Trains leave Denver stations at 7:00 a.m. to finally arrive in Winter Park Resort by 9:11 a.m. or in Fraser by 9:41 a.m.

Governor Jared Polis was pleased to see “When we provide passenger rail service, Coloradans ride,” due to which there was a heavy rush because fares are lower than before.

Amtrak offers affordable fares and enhanced comfort

Amtrak looks forward to high demand due to its record 43,524 passengers recorded last year, which represents a huge 153% increase compared to the previous year’s 16,000 passengers. Pricing will continue to promote family vacations and ski vacations because fares are highly affordable. One-way fares begin at $9 for adults, with kids’ fares starting from $4.50. Customers can purchase tickets online or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL.

The Winter Park Express train offers reclining seats, generous leg room, and a bi-level Sightseer Lounge where passengers can enjoy breathtaking scenery of the Moffat Tunnel and the Rockies. Passengers are free to bring along their ski equipment because the train offers a specific storage room designed specifically for storing these items. The train has a cafe located in its lower level that serves drinking and eating options.

Analysts in the industry believe that this route offers a possible model for developing sustainable tourism. Not only does it reduce congestion in roads and lower emissions, but it also supports economic development in Colorado because it connects major cities to rural recreation areas.

With its high ridership numbers, improved facilities, and collaboration with states, Amtrak proves that passenger rail can remain viable and environmentally supportive within a rapidly developing transportation sector.
