Amtrak NEC service disruption between Baltimore and Philadelphia

The disruption affected trains between Baltimore and Philadelphia. Services were held while the Susquehanna River Bridge⁠ was inspected on the corridor between Perryville and Havre de Grace, Md.

Amtrak’s NEC Alerts account said at 3:40 p.m. ET that passengers should expect delays of up to two hours⁠ during the inspection.

Susquehanna River Bridge inspection followed the barge strike

A Coast Guard spokesman said the strike happened at about 2:40 p.m. and caused only minimal damage to the wood around the bridge pier that was hit. The spokesman also said the tugboat involved was not damaged.

By 6:40 p.m. ET, Amtrak’s train status tool still showed Philadelphia-to-Baltimore departures before 7 p.m. as delayed. Four of the next five trains were listed as on time. A similar pattern appeared for departures from Baltimore, where four of five trains leaving at 6:59 p.m. or later were shown as on time, while earlier services remained delayed.

News reports later said service had resumed by 8 p.m.⁠
