Alstom has been selected as the preferred bidder for designing and constructing a 19.3 km tram line in Quebec, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The company will also supply trams to the city, although the exact number has not been disclosed yet.

The contract is valued at $2.9 billion. Alstom has announced that the trams will be manufactured at the former Bombardier plant in La Pocatière, Canada.

The line is expected to be operational by 2028.

It’s worth noting that the city previously had a tram system, but it was closed 80 years ago, in 1948.
