Metro Ligero Oeste, a key operator in Madrid’s public transport network, has secured a strategic contract with Alstom. The project involves a mid-life overhaul of 27 Citadis trams, which have been serving Madrid since 2007, aiming to improve operational safety, efficiency, and reliability.
The project covers crucial systems like brakes, bogies, circuit breakers, couplings, and emergency brakes, ensuring the fleet operates seamlessly. Divided into two main phases, work will start in early 2025 and is expected to complete by 2029, significantly elevating passenger experience.
Alstom’s Role in Madrid’s Urban Mobility
Alstom’s engineering team, based in Madrid’s Pinto industrial facility, will manage the project’s design, testing, and final adjustments. This collaboration underscores a mutual commitment to offering high-quality, sustainable transport options to Madrid’s residents, where safety and efficiency remain top priorities.
