Vectron Dual Mode is a dual mode of diesel and electric traction, suited for operators of partially electrified routes.
This flexibility makes it possible for the customers of Alpha Trains to employ a single type of locomotive for entire routes, such that there is no interchanging between diesel and electrical models.
Consequently, operators cut costs while elevating the long-term effectiveness of leased property.
Siemens Mobility will keep the new locomotives under a 2023 service contract, which will make them reliable and performant throughout their life cycle.
Manufacturing shall be carried out at Siemens Munich-Allach plant, where the complete Vectron family is produced.
Vectron Dual Mode Adheres to Europe’s Sustainability Initiatives
Each Vectron Dual Mode produces 2.4 MW at electrical power at DC bus, and 2 MW at diesel, at up to 160 km/h. This flexibility allows operators to shift towards Cleaner Freight and Industrial Operations.
The hybrid traction system saves energy and reduces CO₂ emissions because electricity is available for use wherever feasible. This is in line with the EU’s environmental goals and decarbonization. Alpha
Trains hopes that such new hybrid locomotives will create interest at the customers for new-age, flexible leasing solutions. Siemens Mobility, consequently, fortifies its position as a market leader in innovative and environmentally efficient trail track technology.
