21.09.2022
The German region of Schleswig-Holstein has ordered 55 two-section battery trains, reports Railway Supply citing Rynek Kolejowy.

At Innotrans 2022, the first of 55 rechargeable Akku Flirts was presented. From mid-2023, trains will be used on the North and Northwest Germany network. They will be equipped with a classic pantograph so that they can use the contact network. With its help, it will be possible to charge lithium-ion batteries, which are placed in the cars wherever possible – under the floor and on the roof. Batteries will also be charged by regenerative braking.

It is important to note that Stadler, in addition to the trains themselves, will provide maintenance for 30 years, which probably means maintenance until the end of their service life.
Akku, like other Flirt trains, has an aluminum construction. There are 216 seats in the car, 123 of them are seated. Flirt passengers from northern Germany will have a very comfortable journey. Comfortable armchairs have been prepared for them, there is a small first-class compartment with leather armchairs. The electric train has a lot of room for standing passengers, as well as thoughtful space for carrying prams and bicycles, as well as for people with limited mobility. The interior is made in gray-blue-turquoise colors. Information boards for passengers will show detailed information about the trip.
