Since 2021, Akiem has already purchased 100 locomotives from the Vectron family, focusing on the versatility of its rolling stock.
The Vectron Dual Mode model enables efficient operation on both electrified and non-electrified routes without changing locomotives, which reduces operational costs.
Versatility and Specifications of Vectron Dual Mode
The Vectron Dual Mode locomotives feature four axles, 2.4 MW of power under overhead wires, and 2 MW in diesel mode.
They can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h, making them ideal for mixed-traffic routes.
Initially, the locomotives will be used in Germany and Austria.
In the future, Akiem may deploy them in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria, which requires multi-system compatibility.
Growing Demand for Vectron Dual Mode in Europe
Vectron Dual Mode remains a highly demanded model thanks to its flexibility and reliability.
Siemens Mobility has already received over 2,700 orders from 100 different clients.
Locomotives from this series are certified for operation in 20 European countries.
This enables fleet standardization and seamless cross-border operations across different infrastructure networks.
