A slider was found on the wheel of two S70 Siemens Mobility trams in Charlotte, North Carolina
12.01.2024
Half of Siemens Mobility trams were taken out of service in Charlotte due to the discovery of a slider on the wheel of two three-section S70 model trams, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The city’s transit operator CATS has deactivated 22 out of 42 such trams at the direction of the transportation department.
The London court dismissed Siemens Mobility’s claims
The later series S700 trams remain in operation, while the sidelined ones undergo maintenance lasting two to three months.
CATS CEO Brent Cagle noted that maintenance specialists identified excessive play on the wheel, leading to the slider’s appearance.
Despite this, CATS asserts that this issue is unrelated to previous bearing problems that caused several trams to derail in 2022.
The operational S700 trams will continue service without changes.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation and CATS are focused on the expedited recovery of the sidelined trams for their eventual return to the system after completing technical maintenance.
