China railway passenger record was set at 24.8 million passenger trips on May 1. It marked a new single-day high on May Day. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The figure was based on China State Railway Group data. Meanwhile, Reuters cited the official Xinhua news agency on expected May 2 rail traffic. The national rail system was expected to carry another 19.7 million passengers.
The Zhengzhou line added 140 passenger trains. Also, the Chengdu line added 184 extra services, Xinhua said.
At the same time, China’s tourism market remains a bright spot in domestic demand. It adds momentum to the national economy. Still, the national economy faces pressure from weak consumption and a prolonged property downturn.
