The transportation departments of the state of California will now receive 10 next-generation train sets for their railway network, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

An order for six more hydrogen trains from Stadler

The state of California in the USA has expanded its orders for Stadler’s FLIRT H2 hydrogen trains, adding six more train sets to the agreement initially signed in October 2023.

Locomotives for Rail STM will be supplied by Newag

The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) and the State Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will now receive a minimum of 10 hydrogen-powered train sets from the manufacturer as part of the decarbonization efforts of their railway network.

The first trains are expected to start operating in 2027 and will be used on the Valley Rail line between Merced and Sacramento, the expansion of the Altamont Corridor Express, and Amtrak San Joaquins.
