Swiss rolling stock manufacturer Stadler has become the sole contender for supplying 75 new electric trains to the Polish regional operator Koleje Mazowieckie (KM) following tenders announced in December 2023, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The procurement was divided into two separate tenders. The first tender involves the supply of 50 five-car trains and their maintenance for 18 years, as well as the supply of spare parts kits.

The starting price of the tender is 2.431 billion zlotys ($610 million). Stadler, which submitted the only bid for the tender, offered a significantly higher contract amount – 3.249 billion zlotys ($820 million).
A similar situation arose with the second tender.
It entails a firm order for the supply of 15 trains and an additional 10 trains under an option for a total of 1.255 billion zlotys ($320 million), while Stadler proposed to fulfill such a contract for 1.635 billion zlotys ($410 million).
Stadler estimated the total cost of fulfilling the two contracts at 4.88 billion zlotys.
Koleje Mazowieckie announced two tenders for the supply of 75 electric trains in the summer of 2023, with the total value of the two contracts amounting to 3.69 billion zlotys ($930 million).
Last October, the carrier was forced to cancel their results due to the high cost of Stadler’s offer, which became the sole participant in the tender.
At that time, the Swiss manufacturer set the contract price at 5.18 billion zlotys.
