Wyss&Lila opens new rail maintenance hub in Rijeka

Wyss&Lila has opened a 1,000-square-metre rail maintenance hub in Rijeka, giving locomotive operators a new base for workshop repairs and round-the-clock field support across South-East Europe.

A 1,000 m² workshop for locomotive maintenance

In its announcement of the Rijeka hub⁠, the Swiss company said the facility is designed for railway operators, leasing companies and rolling stock manufacturers. The site combines workshop-based maintenance with engineering and mobile support, allowing customers to use one regional base for several stages of fault diagnosis and repair.

The workshop can perform preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance. Its equipment also supports high-voltage testing, electrical-system diagnostics and fault localisation, while the engineering team can provide technical modifications, troubleshooting and specialist assistance for rolling stock.

The maintenance work is intended to follow Entity in Charge of Maintenance requirements. The EU ECM regulation⁠ establishes the certification framework for organisations responsible for maintaining railway vehicles, making documented responsibilities and maintenance processes central to the system.

24/7 mobile teams extend the hub’s reach

Wyss&Lila will operate mobile response teams 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They can travel to customer sites across South-East Europe, adding field intervention to the fixed workshop capacity in Rijeka.

The hub will also manage spare parts, component logistics and technical support. The company says this combination is intended to reduce the time needed to locate faults, complete repairs and return locomotives to service. The announcement did not disclose the investment value, staffing level or any initial customer contracts.

Rijeka connects workshop support with Adriatic traffic

Rijeka is Croatia’s main seaport and a major logistics point for traffic moving between Central Europe, the Balkans and the Adriatic. Locating the maintenance base there places workshop services close to vehicles passing through this part of the regional rail network.

The project forms part of Wyss&Lila’s plan to build a pan-European maintenance network combining workshops, engineering centres and mobile service teams. In Rijeka, the immediate change is specific: operators, lessors and manufacturers gain a 1,000 m² workshop backed by regional 24/7 field support.
