Public comment on WMATA budget and timeline

Online input is being accepted through Feb. 10. WMATA said public comment on WMATA budget plans will be summarized and provided to the board in March, as noted in a WMATA announcement on the FY2027 budget and service plan.

WMATA proposed service improvements for Metrorail and buses

For the coming year, WMATA’s plans center on advancing more efficient service via bus scheduling improvements, train automation, and operational changes involving six-car and eight-car trains. Proposed service improvements include Metrorail service frequency increases on weekdays, in the evening, and late at night, plus added peak-period capacity. WMATA also indicated in a press release that fares will not increase under the proposal.

Along with the operating changes, the proposed budget points to major capital program investments aimed at improving service and the customer experience. WMATA lists priorities that span rail cars and rail facilities, rail systems, track and structures rehabilitation, and station and passenger facilities.
