Train fares for adults are just $19, and child fares are just $9.50, offering a relatively low-cost way for families and adventure-seekers to get into the Rockies via train.

Winter Park Express Expands Schedule and Lowers Fares

Amtrak and CDOT have extended the Winter Park Express due to record-breaking attendance last winter. During winter 2025, this train operates Thursday through Monday, providing service on five days of the week as opposed to operating on only weekends before.

Train service departs Denver Union Station at 7:00 a.m., arriving at Winter Park Resort at 9:11 a.m., then on to Fraser at 9:41 a.m. Going back, it departs from Fraser at 4:05 p.m., arriving at Denver at 7:05 p.m.

Operating times are convenient for both daytime and weekend ski enthusiasts.

Governor Jared Polis regards this service as “safe, affordable, and essential for Colorado’s clean air future.” It helps towards fulfilling state plans of reducing traffic congestion on I-70 and linking sustainable mountain tourism.

Winter Park Express Offers Comfort and Scenic Travel

Onboard, passengers can enjoy ample reclining seats, mountain views through the ‘Sightseer Lounge,’ and a café serving hot drinks and snacks. The two-hour journey is more of a mini-vacation than a commute.

Skiers and snowboarders can bring equipment for free, and this helps save on costs and parking or fuel charges. Since it stops right at the resort’s base, riders avoid winter travel woes altogether.

Amtrak recognizes that the Winter Park Express has become a blueprint of operations for expanding passenger rail services within other states that have mountains. It is a pilot project that would become Colorado’s future route, called the Mountain Corridor Rail Line that would stretch between Denver and mountain resorts and communities such as Steamboat Springs and Craig.

Train tickets can be purchased on www.amtrak.com or through the Amtrak app. Groups can travel together easily online, and links into Denver Union Station are smooth into commuter rail and airport connections.
