Williams County urges Congress on Amtrak rail car replacement
11.04.2026
Amtrak rail car replacement is the subject of a new appeal from Williams County commissioners. They joined other organizations urging Congress to move quickly on replacing outdated Amtrak rail cars.

Amtrak rail car replacement timeline
According to Amtrak Media, Amtrak made the announcement in February. Coaches and sleepers on long-distance trains would be replaced with single-level rail cars.
Separately, the first cars should be ready in the early 2030s, as Railway Supply noted. That timeline came from Amtrak’s president.
Funding call from Williams County
In the KFYR report, Hanson said current rail cars are insufficient to meet current demand. Williams County Commission Chairman Cory Hanson also said replacement should have begun years ago. The board called on Congress to work with Amtrak. It also called for the necessary funding for timely replacement.
The call for action came from the High Speed Rail Alliance. It is a nonprofit supporting train transportation.
