The Mumbai Monorail O&M contract has gone to Hyderabad-based Power Mech Projects Limited. The deal is worth ₹296 crore and runs for five years. It comes from state-owned Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL).

Contract scope on the Mumbai Monorail

The contract value excludes GST. It covers the 19.54-km corridor between Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk and Chembur. It also covers 17 stations.

Under the agreement, Power Mech will handle Mumbai Monorail operations and maintenance end to end. That includes new rolling stock. It also includes an upgraded Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system. That scope is outlined in Power Mech’s stock exchange filing.

The Mumbai Monorail entered service in 2014, the MMRDA project overview notes. It remains the country’s only straddle monorail system, according to ETInfra.

Power Mech enters urban transit operations

The award marks Power Mech Projects Limited’s entry into the urban transit operations segment. It also extends the company’s operations and maintenance portfolio beyond its core power sector business.

Sajja Kishore Babu is Chairman and Managing Director of Power Mech. He said, “This project strengthens PMPL’s strategic fit by creating a powerful synergy between our core industrial O&M competencies and the specialised demands of urban transit.”

The company said it will deploy trained personnel. It will focus on operational efficiency, safety and passenger comfort. Babu also said urban transit operations require “24×7 readiness, high reliability and strict compliance”. He added that the company aims to help MMMOCL improve service reliability and passenger experience.
