The 2025/26 State Budget includes $700 million for widening the Kwinana Freeway and $450 million for separating Reid Highway from Erindale Road.

Another $250 million will upgrade regional roads through the Road Safety Program. The Wanneroo Road Corridor project will receive $36 million to ease traffic flow.

Western Australia also allocated $107 million to expand ferry services on the Swan River and $103 million to electrify its entire bus fleet by 2029.

To stimulate local industry, $83 million will go toward producing electric buses and ferries within the state. This will support jobs and help lower emissions.

Regional routes will see more upgrades, including $25 million each for South Coast Highway improvements and Northam Pithara Road realignment.

A new SufCAT bus service will be launched with an $18 million investment to expand transit access in underserved areas.

Public Transit Funding Expands Across Western Australia

Public transport will benefit from $152 million allocated for a Suburban Flat Fare, making travel more affordable across Transperth and Transregional systems.

Another $10 million will ensure free public transport for students in 2026, reinforcing access to education and easing family budgets.

Premier Roger Cook stated that the investments will help strengthen services and boost industries throughout the state.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring all communities—urban, regional, and remote—have access to resilient infrastructure and essential services.

This investment positions the region for long-term growth while supporting environmental goals and improving mobility for all residents.
