Wascosa has presented the second generation of interchangeable-body rail platforms
27.05.2023
Swiss leasing company Wascosa, together with Austrian railcar manufacturer Boxmover, has unveiled the second generation of Flex Freight System (FFS) rail platforms
FFS 2.0 is a 40-foot platform that can accommodate a 20-foot tank container, a 40-foot open-top container for bulk goods, a 20-foot container for steel coils. This was reported by the railway journal Railway Supply, citing Wascosa.
The new technology is expected to reduce the welding time of the platform from 300 to 65-100 hours through automated production. Combined with its modular design, this will significantly shorten the delivery time of wagons to customers.
The FFS 2.0 prototype is currently in the final stage of certification. It is expected to be completed soon, with the first deliveries starting in mid-2024.
Wascosa has been developing interchangeable-body technology since 2009, and currently operates over 1,000 FFS first-generation wagons in several European countries.
