The theft occurred on Sunday when the crates went missing from a train car stationed at a railway station near the German border. On Wednesday morning, they were found submerged in a pond less than 4 km from the station, according to the publication.
Police spokesperson Mariusz Czarka confirmed that the ammunition crates were stolen from a train guarded by American soldiers.
Three of the crates were sealed and remained intact, but one was open, although its contents were still inside. The official added that the security of these crates had been ensured.
The district prosecutor’s office confirmed the arrest of three individuals but is currently withholding further details due to ongoing investigations.
According to the prosecutor’s statement, the theft was discovered by railway security personnel during an inspection of the train at the station.
