Warehouse Logistics Growth Driven by E-commerce Expansion Abroad
12.10.2024
China actively develops warehouse logistics abroad. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

According to China’s Ministry of Commerce, there are over 120,000 companies in the country engaged in cross-border e-commerce. Outside China, there are more than 2,500 warehouses with a total area of 30 million square meters, of which about 1,800 are focused on e-commerce.

These warehouses, covering 22 million square meters, handle the flow of Chinese goods and support the demand for logistics services. E-commerce has become a key driver of warehouse logistics growth.
This sector is actively expanding its network of sites for transshipment, storage, and sorting of goods. Technologies and work methods are also evolving, further improving logistics processes. For example, COSCO SHIPPING, a major shipping operator, has established a bonded warehouse near Hamburg with an area of 10,000 square meters for storing hazardous goods. This solution eliminates the need to pay taxes and duties on unsold goods and allows returning them to the sender without additional costs.
SONGMICS HOME, a company selling home goods, expanded its warehouse capacities in Europe in the first half of 2024. In addition to its main warehouse in Duisburg (Germany), it opened three new warehouses and increased the total area to 350,000 square meters. This expansion enabled the company to increase its revenue by 41% compared to the same period in 2023.
In recent months, European consumer demand for Chinese food and beverages has significantly increased. The development of cross-border e-commerce and the improvement of warehouse logistics have played a key role in this process.
