Vilnius–Kaunas express train launches on 29 March
18.03.2026
As reported by RailwayPro, the Vilnius–Kaunas express train will be launched by LTG Link from 29 March. Meanwhile, tickets for the new service have been on sale since 13 March.

Also, the company said the move reflects the strategic importance of this corridor. At the same time, it pointed to rising passenger demand. Last year, LTG Link carried nearly 6 million passengers. Meanwhile, about one third of them — around 2 million — travelled on the Vilnius–Kaunas route.
Vilnius–Kaunas express train journey time
The new express will run without intermediate stops. In addition, it is intended to make travel between the two cities faster and more comfortable. Kristina Meidė, CEO of LTG Link, said: “The express service between the country’s two largest cities is another step towards making rail a convenient and reliable alternative to the car. At the same time, it strengthens our strategic ambition to become the backbone of transport across the country—a modern, sustainable solution tailored to people’s daily mobility needs,”

For example, trains on the Vilnius–Kaunas route currently stop at Lentvaris, Vievis, Kaišiadorys and Palemonas. Still, services can make from three to 15 stops. Travel times usually range from 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. By running non-stop, the express service will reduce the journey to about 59 minutes.
In addition, LTG Link noted that temporary infrastructure works and traffic disruptions could still affect trip duration. Still, the express will remain the fastest way to travel by train between Vilnius and Kaunas.
LTG Link expands onboard service
Separately, passengers will be able to reserve seats in both first and second class carriages. Also, those travelling with advance tickets will be able to use designated seats marked with stickers.
Meanwhile, the operator has expanded onboard catering. The LTG Link express menu shows more substantial meals and hot drinks for passengers. In addition, tickets for the service will be sold under a dynamic pricing model. Also, travellers who book earlier will be able to buy them at lower prices.
